Stop the Relocation of BISS Sentrum – Anonymous Voting to Preserve Accessibility, Safety, and Stability for Families in Stavanger

We, the parents, guardians, staff, and supporters of BISS Sentrum, respectfully ask the Committee for Childhood and Education in Stavanger Municipality to help stop the forced relocation of BISS Sentrum to Gausel and the merger of the two campuses. Despite parental protests, this remains the only feasible option at this point, as BISS Sentrum must leave its current premises by the 2027/2028 school year and has not yet found a viable relocation option in Stavanger Sentrum.
As a free school, we request support in securing appropriate premises in Stavanger Sentrum so that BISS Sentrum can continue operating as a separate school.
We strongly believe that the forced move and campus merger would negatively impact children, families, staff, and the wider community.

Why We Oppose the Relocation
Relocating BISS Sentrum from the center of Stavanger to Gausel would:
  • Create unmanageable daily logistics for families, most of whom live in central Stavanger. Many families report that the new commute would be impossible to manage. Based on these concerns, more than 100 children might need placement in local public schools in the city centre, putting additional strain on schools that are already near or beyond capacity.
  • Further increase traffic pressure along E39, road 44, and the Forus–Gausel area, where the road network is already heavily burdened, especially after the nearby hospital relocation. With around 200 pupils currently attending BISS Sentrum, most families indicate they would be forced to drive because public transport routes are long and impractical. This would substantially increase car traffic, congestion, and emissions, undermining Stavanger's mobility and environmental goals.
  • Undermine accessibility and equal opportunities for families who neither live nor work near the Forus–Gausel area.
  • Negatively affect staff accessibility and retention, as many teachers would face significantly longer commutes. This raises serious concerns about losing qualified educators and the resulting impact on education quality.
  • Disrupt the well-established school community and continuity—factors that are especially important for international children adapting to life in a new country.
Our Request
We respectfully request that the Committee for Childhood and Education in Stavanger Municipality actively support and assist in securing suitable, centrally located long-term premises for BISS Sentrum, taking into account that the new location should be ready to use by the 2027–2028 school year.
Please sign and share. Together we can protect the future of our community.
